With the NASA rover “Curiosity” acting as a Martian iPod, Black Eyed Peas singer, will.i.am’sReach for the Stars” was broadcast from the surface of the Red Planet back to Earth to promote science and technology.  The song with orchestral background sounded a bit flat and faded as it made its way across 700 million miles.  But, the earthbound version is smooth and cool, just like the artist himself.

“Reach for the Stars” is the first song broadcast from Mars and will.i.am was on hand at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California to hear it played.  The song is being sold on iTunes for a buck twenty-nine and all proceeds will be used to bring science centric schools to inner city neighborhoods.

“Today is about inspiring young people to lead a life without limits placed on their potential and to pursue collaboration between humanity and technology through STEAM (Science & Technology interpreted through Engineering & the Arts) education. I know my purpose is to inspire young people, because they will keep inspiring me back,” will.i.am said in a press statement.
