Every year in October more than 35,000 spectators converge each fall on the rolling hills of Moorland Farm in Far Hills, New Jersey for the state’s biggest social event of the fall season – The Far Hills Race Meeting. October 19, 2013 will mark the 93rd running of this timeless tradition, featuring the finest steeplechasers in the world competing against a backdrop of autumn splendor. This year the event is sponsored by Open Road Auto Group and the event benefits Somerset Medical Center.
Since the 1950s, the event has raised more than $18 million for Somerset Medical Center. In recognition of the support of the Far Hills Race Meeting Association – the medical center’s most generous benefactor – Somerset Medical Center named its Steeplechase Cancer Center in the association’s honor.
The highlight of the day’s six races is the Grand National, steeplechasing’s richest race which draws a highly competitive field of premier horses from around the world. Spectators create unique and often extravagant fall picnic areas in their reserved parking spots, complete with beautiful floral center pieces, haybale seating, ice carvings and culinary feasts.
Note: The Far Hills Race Meeting Association has established new policies for this year’s event to address alcohol-related issues. General admission ticket holders will not be allowed to enter the grounds with alcohol. Only those who have a reserved a spot will be allowed to bring alcohol on the grounds.
Gates open at 8:00 A.M. Post time for the first race is 1:00 P.M. All spectators must be off the grounds by 6:00 P.M.
General admission tickets may be purchased in advance for $60 and parking tickets for $30 through area vendors. On event day, general admission and parking tickets may only be purchased at the gate. Event day general admission is $120, parking is $30.
Advance ticket sales run from September 28th until October 18th (the day prior to the race).
