Invite: NYJL 61st Annual Winter Ball, “Monet at Midnight”

On Saturday, March 2nd 2013 The New York Junior League (NYJL) will celebrate 112 years of community service and honor seven volunteers during its 61st annual Winter Ball, “Monet at Midnight,”, at The Pierre Hotel in New York City.

The legendary Winter Ball has been the premier event on the NYJL calendar, bringing glamour and style to New York City since 1952. This year attendees will experience the magic of the magnificent setting of The Pierre Hotel while enjoying cocktails and dinner. Guests will be able to bid on live and silent auctions featuring jewelry, vacation getaways, spa treatments, sports tickets and much more. Auction items may be viewed on the NYJL’s 501 Auction site: www.501auctions.com/nyjl/.

More than 500 guests are expected to attend the black tie gala, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction, followed by a seated dinner, a live auction, presentations and dancing.

During the evening, guests will honor and celebrate the substantial body of volunteer work done by Outstanding Sustainers Allison Cooke Kellogg and Barbara Anne Paddock and Outstanding Volunteers Shanette Barth Cohen, Gretchen Freydl Jeanes, Crystal Matsibekker, Julie Naughton and Heidi Thompson.

The NYJL is also excited to honor Judge Judith S. Kaye, former Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of the State of New York, with the NYJL’s Award for Leadership and Excellence, which is presented annually to an exemplary businesswoman and philanthropist dedicated to serving her community.

The emcee for the evening will be John Avlon, who is an author, CNN contributor and senior columnist for Newsweek and the Daily Beast. He shares the NYJL’s mission to support the community needs of New York City and serves on the board of Citizens Union of New York and The Bronx Academy of Letters as well as the advisory board of the Theodore Roosevelt Association.

All proceeds from ticket sales will support the NYJL’s charitable activities. The NYJL collaborates with more than 20 community-based organizations throughout the New York City metropolitan area, including: Project Muse at P.S. 64, whose artwork will be displayed during the evening, Covenant House Crisis Center, the Bayview Correctional Facility, Boys and Girls Harbor, the New York Foundling, Mentoring USA and numerous others organizations and programs. The 2012 Winter Ball raised more than $410,000, which is now being used to develop and maintain the NYJL’s volunteer
projects which support and touch the lives of thousands of New Yorkers.
