NYFW Review & Photos: General Idea Spring/Summer 2013

General Idea SS 13 LuxuriousPROTOTYPE

For General Idea Spring/Summer 2013 Collection, designer Bumsuk Choi was inspired by the documentary film “The Last Lumberjacks” by Yu Guangyi. The General Idea Spring/Summer 2013 collection channels the state of mind of the last lumberjack; their toughness and passion coupled with their loneliness, as their way of life is dramatically altered.

From the inspiration, the collection is very earthy in its color scheme, such as khaki and mustard with pops of neon. For prints, the designer decided to use camouflage and plaid. As for accessories, General Idea teamed up with Samsonite to create  interesting, matching print backpacks. Also, the use of beanies were great accents to the outfits. The trend for Spring/Summer 2013 seems to be monochromatic, so I was please to see some mixing of colors in this fun collection. In addition to the mixing of colors, I also thought the use of different geometrical shapes and the pieces added a bit of flare and modernness.
