The Macallan Flask by Oakley — Whiskey Not Included

Flasks in the 1920s were a neat and secretive way to keep alcohol at hand for those surreptitious sips.  Recently Macallan, purveyors of world-class whiskey, joined forces with the world-class design team of Oakley to create a new flask, one for today’s hip, always on the move tech generation.

The Macallan flask was designed using food-grade steel, carbon fiber, and aerospace-grade aluminum.  Now the flask is as worthy as the distinguished liquor that it protects.  Macallan’s single malt whiskey is renowned for its sophisticated taste and aroma.  It is the world’s favorite single malt.

“I love the story behind The Flask,” says Oakley engineer Neil Ferrier, who initiated the project. “It was born in a very fitting environment. “When Ken (Grier, Director of Malts for The Macallan’s parent company) visited Oakley’s design bunker, he brought us some great Macallan. After a few drams, he asked (Oakley CEO) Colin Baden about making a convention-defying hip flask—and The Flask was born. “The challenges along the way were a ton of fun and the result is a highly engineered piece of hardware dedicated to purpose beyond reason.”

The  video above shows the intense testing that was undertaken on the Macallan flask to ensure that its precious contents wouldn’t leak under extreme conditions:

This highly stylized flask can’t claim heritage of the secretive hip flasks of the Prohibition.  It is a new breed and ready to rock out wherever it is taken.  A rubberized bottom for non-skid grip and a small rectangular air vent on the side of the funnel to allow for ventilation provides the perfect container for this distinct malt whiskey.  The Flask’s cap is double sprung to allow for easy sips and friendly pouring. And, its machined aluminum funnel, designed to securely thread into the mouthpiece, reduces the chance of spillage.  Waste not, want not, right?

The Flask is available for purchase from The Macallan website for £600 ($908).
