The King George Hotel is a five star luxury hotel located in the heart of Athens, Greece. Sitting on one of the sides of Syntagma Square, this Luxury Collection hotel is in close proximity to some of Athens historical monuments and temples, such as: Acropolis, Parthenon, Agora, Temple of Athena and Temple of Olympian Zeus and more. Check-In: Check-in was a breeze! I was quite surprised as to how close it was to Syntagma Square, which is the central hub in Athens. After walking through the square to the hotel, the doormen open the grand doors to the lobby where then I went to the reservation counter. After giving my last name, the reservation attendant said “We’ve been expecting you Mr. Spurlock”. I must admit, it felt good, especially after a 9 hour flight! Around this time, the baggage attendant asked if I wanted my bag taken to the room. I signed my name on the confirmation document, gave them my credit card (in case of incidentals-wasn’t charged) and I received my key cards.

The lobby was grand! By far one of the best lobbies I’ve ever seen. It wasn’t gaudy, very simple in color, but screamed luxury, like old money. There were large paintings and tapestries on the walls, marble floors, antique furniture and a piano.

Hotel Room (The Grand Suite): True to the hotel’s matchless heritage, the Grand Suites, features generous windows and – in selected suites, private balconies with views of the city. The room I had was absolutely stunning. Again, it wasn’t over-the-top, but screamed luxury. The room featured a generous sized bathroom with marble floors and walls, a large bedroom and a sitting room with a balcony that looked onto Syntagma Square. As some who was visiting Athens for the first time, this was amazing. To have a balcony that looked onto one of the most popular public spaces in Athens was great. I really got the feel of the pulsating city. Also, it wasn’t bad having a glass (or two or three) of champagne while sitting on a balcony as everyone walk by below.

Bedroom: The bedroom was located in between the bath room and the sitting room. There were hard wood floors throughout the bedroom that made for a homier feel. The king sized bed was covered in a thick duvet and satin pillows with crown emblems. In front of the bed was an antique chest of drawers and a 42-inch LED flat screen TV. One interesting design element that stuck out to me was the tray ceiling with accent lights.

Bathroom: The bathroom was generously sized, not too big and not too small. The room featured marble floors and walls, literally it was everywhere! Talk about luxe. There was a sunken bath tub and separate rainfall shower. I thought this was an excellent touch. I was happy to see that the bathroom products were Molton Brown, as the brand is one of my favorites.

Sitting Room: This was the crown jewel of the suite! The elegant sitting featured an exquisite antique style sofa, armchairs, a coffee table and desk. The room also featured a fireplace that was topped with a 37-inch LED television with DVD player. Everything is this room was traditional in style, besides the television. I felt like I was sitting in a proper sitting room in an old home. The ceiling fixture was a beautiful pink and green glass chandelier.

The sitting room also had french doors that led to the balcony that featured a table and chairs that overlooked Syntagma Sqaure. With views of the Parliament and ancient temples, this suite made for the perfect evening.

Customer Service: The staff was extremely polite and thoughtful. I ordered up a iron and ironing board and it arrived within 4 minutes.

The concierge staff were able to place me in the right direction for good restaurants and bars. They also followed up with me to see if i enjoyed their picks. This was a good gesture as it will help them improve or fine tune their recommendations. The bars and restaurants the recommended turned out to be pretty nice. One of the restaurants they recommended was 360. I would recommend this restaurant/bar to anyone as it has striking views of Acropolis.
