Mention Sweetgreen to anyone in D.C. and they’ll instantly think about a moderately priced, great salad that would be a hell of lot less calories than the wings and mambo sauce left over from last night’s fourth-meal purchase. What most people don’t know, is that the restaurant is offering more than delicious, eco-friendly dining options around the District. For the fourth year, sweetgreen is hosting sweetlife: a music + food festival in Columbia, Maryland – 30 minutes outside the city.
It seems to be the year of the concert, the summer of the music festival. Everybody’s who’s anybody is having a concert or touring with somebody who is; in the D.C. area alone, our concert roster boasts acts like P!NK, Rihanna, Kenny Chesney and Jimmy Buffet. The festival line-ups haven’t completely garnered artists who are quite as notable, but some talented acts nonetheless. sweetlife is slated to be no different. Held at the Merriweather Post Pavilion, entertainers will perform on three different stages from noon to 11PM. Of an extensive list, a few of my personal favorites like Solange, Kendric Lamar, Shark Week and Mr. JPatt (of the Knocks) are slated to perform.
The music’s only half the equation. Local food trucks and farmers, bakeries, brewers and of course sweetgreen shops will surround the grounds. The VIP area of the Merriweather will provide cabana lounges, specialty food and drink vending as well as separate viewing for some of the performances.
All’s well where there’s good food and good music. If you’re in the D.C. area this weekend, you know where to go to find both.
