Finding a solid hair product line can be difficult. We’ve all experienced the ups and the downs of experimenting with less than average hair products. I’m happy to say that I’ve added a new collection to my arsenal.
The new Old Spice Hair collection features an assortment of shampoos, conditioners and styling products designed to give guys the hair – and confidence – they need to look and smell their best. The styling line consists of: Deadlock Spiking Glue, Cruise Control Forming Crème, Forge Molding Putty, Unruly Texturing Paste, and the Spiffy Sculpting Pomade.
Being that I now have short hair (le sigh), I prefer to use the Spiffy Sculpting Pomade and the Cruise Control Forming Crème. The Spiffy Sculpting Pomade is great because it has a medium hold with a matte finish. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve encountered the ultra shine pomades. For guys with short high, the ultra shine just comes off looking greasy. Who wants greasy looking hair? Not me! So the good thing about the pomade is the matte finish. It makes you looked polished, without the gloss.
When using the Spiffy Sculpting Pomade or Cruise Control Forming Crème, I prefer to use it directly after I towel blot my hair after washing and conditioning. This way I still have a little moisture locked in after applying the product. After putting on the product, my hair seems slicker and put together. This look lasts all day long, no matter how humid New York City gets!
For guys with longer hair, I recommend going for the Unruly Texturing Paste or the Molding Putty. These styling products allow you to create different textured looks or a slick, clean look with the same matte finish as the pomade. I gave the product to a friend with longer hair and he used a finger twist technique to get a semi spiky/bed head look. He gathered small individual sections of his hair, while slightly damp, and twisted the products on to his hair. At this point, he had more of a spiky look. He finished by ruffling his hair a bit, which created his final bed head look.
In addition to the styling products, Old Spice has an array of 2-in-1 shampoo options. Normally I wouldn’t recommend 2-in-1 shampoos because I think they aren’t as effective as the old separate shampoo and conditioner method. However, after trying the products, I’m convinced that they can stand up to the old method. Some of my favorites are:
Don’t think you are going to get your grandpa’s scent with these styling and hair care products! These scents are a huge drawing point. You can skip the cologne shower, seriously!
Old Spice styling products deliver awesome looking hair with the least amount of effort. Gentleman, you no longer have to be intimidated with choosing the styling product that’s right for you.
