Each year, NYFC touches the lives of close to 1,000 youth in foster care through signature programming including the Back-to-School Package Program, Network to Success, the Guardian Scholars Program, the Youth Advisory Board, and the Annual College and Vocational Conferences. NYFC also continues to further its mission and broaden the organization’s impact through partnerships with ACS and nonprofit organizations to create more effective systems to better serve the nearly 14,000 New York City children in foster care. The following are a few examples of our accomplishments in 2012:

  • NYFC awarded $325,000 in grants to the Administration for Children’s Services and nonprofit organizations serving New York City youth in foster care
  • 565 students in foster care received Back-to-School Packages during the 2011-2012 academic year
  • 198 young people attended educational, vocational and career networking conferences
  • 75 teenagers in foster care volunteered at the 2012 Wrap to Rap program, which provided over 1,000 gifts to children in foster care during the holiday season
  • The Guardian Scholars Program expanded to include 8 new students, bringing the total number of current Guardian Scholars to 17
  • The 2012 Spirit Award recipient, Brian, was provided with a $10,000 scholarship to pursue his educational goals, as well as two runner-up scholarships of $2,500 each to Maurice and Leo
