Sam Tufnell has gained notoriety over the last few years as his illuminated sculptures have been appearing across the country in solo show’s, major art fairs, museum shows, he even has his own land mark installation in Upstate NY called “Gnome Mountain” searchable on google maps.
For his latest show Tufnell uses his signature approach of pushing the envelope of what contemporary sculpture can be in order to present an observation on what he calls ‘the new gods”. Exploring the similarities of human behavior now and going back thousands of years in relation to faith, religious belief, idol worship and what determines that behavior, and especially its influence on our modern society and popular culture.
