Ralph Lauren Designs Winterwear for the United States Olympic Team

The famous American luxury label is once again dressing the country’s athletes, ahead of next year’s winter Olympics and Paralympics in Sochi, Russia.

Hot on the heels of the unveiling of the French uniforms created by sportswear label Lacoste (founded in 1933 by tennis champion and Olympic medalist René Lacoste), comes the first peek at the designs by all-American fashion label Ralph Lauren for the United States Olympic Committee.

“When the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic teams march into the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi, they will carry with them the support of all Americans,” said Peter Zeytoonjian, USOC managing director of marketing. “Ralph Lauren takes great pride in outfitting Team USA, and the Closing Ceremony garments for the 2014 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams reflect the pride and embody the emotion of this special moment,” he added.

The athletes will attend the closing ceremony wearing classic red, white and blue colors, with a Nordic-style knit polo-neck sweater underneath a navy peacoat, winter hiking boots, and cream slim-fit fleece athletic
pants.

There’s also a four-minute long video which shows off the brand’s commitment to design, source, and manufacture the pieces in the United States, working with 40 partners across the country from Oregon to New York City.

Team USA’s Olympic and Paralympic woolen items were produced with sheep’s wool from a 142-year-old ranch in Oregon. The 6,250 pounds of Oregon wool were spun into 5,625,000 yards of yarn in Pennsylvania, which was in turn dyed in North Carolina, and then transported to California where it went into the 650 uniforms for Team USA and the 65,000 items of clothing manufactured for the games.

The Ralph Lauren 2014 Team USA Collection will be available from November 15 on RalphLauren.com and TeamUSAShop.com.
