Trending: A Glimpse of Color

Thanks to foottraffic.com

Men’s fashion often moves at a glacial pace for most guys around the country. The latest “fast-moving” trend has now gone mainstream.  This trend is that glimpse of color and that pop of fashion located above the shoe line and below the pant leg — the sock.  Yes, the era of fun sock wear is a-foot (pun entirely intended!).

Welcome men to the land of colorful socks. This new color splash isn’t just different shades of the old blue, black and brown standards, but we’re talking COLOR — extreme colors. Colors like red, pink, orange and bright green.

There are even some zippy designs for your feet as well. You can express yourself with textured solids, polka-dots, flashy argyles reminiscent of those 1980’s college preps, and there are also some bold stripes to jazz up the lower half of your legs. Most guys find these colors and patterns unimaginable to wear with jeans, dress pants or even a business suit, but the trend has been established, so  it may be time to adapt.

The idea behind these vibrant socks is to give a guy a chance to show a whole lot of personality without making a big dollar commitment, nor really having to be fully out there.  Most guys won’t don a striped suit or orange pants, but it truly doesn’t take a lot to slip on a pair of polka-dotted or yellow socks. This coupled with the other new trend of shorter pant lengths either as roll-ups or fashion-forward “floods”, the ankle will be bared for the world to see, so the times are a changing. Put-a-sock-on-it has a whole new meaning.

This new movement in men’s fashion is definitely an easy and inexpensive one for guys to embrace. And why not change up that sock drawer and create a new look. You can start with a weekend look and then switch gears and add a splash of color to your weekly work mode.

Don’t be afraid to figure out how to match up these new out-loud socks with your footwear. Unfortunately, there’s no Garanimals match-up help for these new socks. You’ll be on your own, just remember to channel your inner creative soul, cross your fingers and then just wing it.

Take those red Adidas sneakers and pair them with some very cool blue and white stripped socks. Use a solid lime green with those brown oxfords you wear to the office every day. Take some baby-steps if necessary. Brightening your lower half with flashes of color while wearing your classic navy blue suit may take some getting used to when donning a pair in the office.

Remember one aspect of dressing; you want to always feel comfortable with what you are wearing. If a glimpse of pink polka-dot socks grabs the attention of your bros or office mates and it makes you squirm, then dial it back. Try a more subtle stripe, a not-so-bright color or stick to the tried, but true blue sock. Being secure in what you wear is always the key to a successful wardrobe. Adopting a less “out-there” version is okay.

And if all else fails and you buy some trendy socks and hate the look, give them to your grandmother, so she can make a flashy sock monkey for the church rummage sale.
